These memo notes were collected by our Greek friends during the final meeting in Volos.
During my Comenius trips this year I visited Hungary, Poland and Greece. It was wonderful to meet very nice teachers from other European countries for first time. We exchanged opinions on our educational systems, we participated in integration games and learnt traditional dances in Hungary and Poland. We took part in quizzes and gained a lot of knowledge about the hosting countries. We cooked and tried traditional foods of 5 different countries in Budapest and we visited historical places and learnt a lot about the history of the countries.
I will never forget the “Shoes on the Danube Bank”, an impressive
monument created on the West Bank of the Danube River to honour the Jews who
were killed during World War II.
Poland, my second
visit, is a country with a lot of rich but turbulent history. While I was
visiting Poland I felt so proud of its people fighting for a free and united
country and also for their culture and human dignity. We walked in Kielce
and learnt about its history on the spot
and we also visited the Holy Cross
Mountains. The Gothic Wawel castle in Kracow
constitutes the most historically and culturally important site in
Poland. In Poland both me and
my students enjoyed a wonderful “Comenius Gala” full of music, dances and
singing. The Polish students spoke about their interests in school subjects, music and
sports.
My trip ends in Volos
where I lived the great hospitality of the Greeks in all its dimensions. We all felt like home
and everybody was so happy. We got so close and enjoyed our stay in Volos very
much. The young students
of the 3rd Primary school of
N. Ionia surprised us with their talents in acting and dancing. It was great
pleasure to watch “Ecclisiazouses”, written by Aristophanes in 392 B.C.
We visited the Town
Hall, the Museum with its unique findings, the public library of Milies in
Mount Pilion, with its old, rare Greek and Latin books and historic features.
We ended our travelogue in Meteora, one
of the largest and most important complexes of Greek Orthodox Monasteries in
Greece.
Our 2 year Comenius
programme reached its end in Volos. Before we said goodbye to each other we had
lived an impressive night with the traditional dances of the 12 European
countries, danced by the young students of the 3rd Primary School of
N. Ionia. That was the successful completion of the programme. This programme
brought together 12 different European countries. Teachers and students shared
their cultures, traditions, beliefs and thoughts. We showed respect for diversity and we made new friends. We
laughed together, worked together and practised the English language. We formed
bonds and felt proud of belonging to our own family, the European Union.
